Terms of use
1. Acceptance of terms
By downloading, installing, or using Dome (“the Application” or “Dome”), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Application.
2. Description of the service
Dome is an open-source desktop application for knowledge management and academic research, as described in the public repository. You organize notes, PDFs, videos, and URLs in projects; the app can index, search, and help synthesize that material. You may run local or cloud AI, depending on your configuration (Settings and environment).
3. License to use the software
The Dome project is distributed under a custom open-source license in the LICENSE file — it is not fairly summarized as a stock MIT or GPL grant alone. Free for personal and educational use. Commercial use requires written permission from the licensor, unless a separate written agreement or the full license text in the repository grants otherwise. Read and comply with the LICENSE file before commercial redistribution or use.
- Source code, documentation, and release artifacts are distributed under the project license on GitHub
- Attribution and any notice requirements in the LICENSE file apply to copies and derivatives
4. Use of third-party services
Optional integrations may connect to third-party services for AI, import, calendar, and other features (for example OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Ollama, or MCP servers you configure). Use of those services is subject to their terms and privacy policies. API keys and tokens you provide are stored on your device as implemented in the app.
5. Intellectual property
Content you create in Dome (notes, annotations, your library) remains yours. The Dome name, logo, and project branding are subject to the repository license and any separate trademark or branding policy the maintainers publish.
6. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
THE APPLICATION IS PROVIDED “AS IS”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE AUTHORS AND COPYRIGHT HOLDERS ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA OR PROFITS, ARISING FROM USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APPLICATION. SEE THE LICENSE AND APPLICABLE LAW FOR THE FULL SCOPE.
7. Contributions
If you contribute to the project, you agree that your contributions are licensed under the same terms the project uses for contributions (as stated in the repository’s contributing guidelines and license), and that maintainers may need your confirmation for licensing clarity.
8. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time. The “Last updated” date above will change when we publish revisions. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms where permitted by law.
